  1. PTA parent Info Night – Anxiety, Thursday, Oct 12th
    Thursday, Oct. 12th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. is a PTA-sponsored parent education night focused on anxiety. School counselor Margaret Albright and regional nurse Nichoel Fry will outline different types of anxiety, how you can identify it in your children and what strategies are helpful when anxiety surpasses normal levels. This workshop is open to all parents.
  2. Curriculum night Thursday, Oct. 19th.  Our school-sponsored curriculum night is on Thursday, October 19th. The format may look at little different this year, but it is a time for parents to come to their child’s classroom to hear what they will be learning this year. More details coming soon!

Picture Day information!

We have two more days scheduled for pictures. Please have your students dress for the weather. Pictures will still be outside and under a tent, but we want students to stay dry and warm while they wait their turn! Please see below for when your child’s class is scheduled for pictures. We would like to have two parent volunteers for each class help shuttle kids back and forth. Please communicate with your child’s teacher to see if they still need volunteers!

** Students in Courtney’s new 4th/5th grade class will have their pictures taken on their original picture date depending on whose class they were originally in. With the change in classes, we will retake Rhian’s class picture on Tuesday and have Courtney’s class picture be on Monday, September 25. Thank you for patience with picture day!
** If your child missed his or her picture day last week, Judi will try and take their pictures tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19.

Popcorn poppers please!


The Edgewood PTA needs volunteers to help pop popcorn (and bag it!) on Wednesdays. The sale of the popcorn helps fund field trips for our students. If you could commit to one Wednesday a month (from 11:40 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.), it would help tremendously! Popcorn Wednesdays will start in mid-October and are very popular with students. Help needed with our annual Fun Run celebration!

Fun Run is just around the corner—on Friday, Oct. 6—and in order for this event to run smoothly and successfully, we need your help. We need volunteers to help with lap marking, money counting, photographing, water stations, set-up and clean-up, the First Aid station and more. As always, all families are welcome at the Fun Run.

Join the site council team

Greetings Edgewood Families,
Edgewood Community Elementary School’s Site Council needs your help. We currently need 1 more parent to be part of our site council team. Edgewood’s Site Council
is composed of stakeholders that work together collaboratively and cooperatively to plan programs, make operational decisions, consider curriculum issues, adopt building policies, and solve problems. Our meetings are scheduled for 3:00 pm on 10/3, 11/7, 12/5, 2/6, 3/6, 4/3, 5/1, and 6/5.

If you would like to serve on site council and are able to make a 2 year commitment please email me and provide a brief description as to why you are interested in serving on Edgewood’s Site Council. Parents interested in serving on site council need to let me know before 4:00 pm on Friday, September 15th. I will compile a list of interested candidates and voting will take place between September 18th and September 22nd. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this process.

Welcome back to school!

We are so excited to see students and teachers back in classrooms! We are looking forward to another successful year. The Edgewood PTA is in full swing and has a calendar of events ready to roll this year. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Edgewood Library. Everyone is welcome and free child care is provided in the cafeteria! Our first meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 19th.

 

 

Projects needing help

Looking for a few good volunteers! 

Don’t forget background checks in order to volunteer at Edgewood!

We are always looking for people to help out at Edgewood. Whether you want to help with an after-school event, in your child’s classroom or with an ongoing program, you’ll need to get a background check through the school district, 4J—every two years! Visit edgewoodpta.com and the About the PTA link for a link to the 4J application and the guidelines associated with volunteering.

The Edgewood PTA is looking for some folks to help with the following projects:

  • Volunteer coordinator
  • Green Team (to help with Bike/Walk events)
  • Fun Night
  • Entertainment committee—puts on movie nights, a dance, ice cream social and field day
  • Volunteer appreciation
  • Playground Improvements
  • Reading Olympics
  • Edgewood Village (our clothing and food pantry)

We have all kinds of volunteer opportunities so please don’t be shy in asking for one that is right for you. Prefer to do work from home? Want to offer time at specific events instead of a long-term project? Want to lead a visionary project? Want to be behind-the-scenes? If everyone committed to donate an hour a month, what a difference it would make!

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)

Join Edgewood’s Oregon Battle of the Books!

Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders: The first Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 1:45-2:45pm in the Edgewood Library. Flyers will be sent home this week with all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Come meet the coaches, learn about OBOB, and mock battle Ella Enchanted and I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980 (do not need to have read to attend). Questions: edgewoodobob@gmail.com.

Mark your calendars! On Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., MOD Pizza will donate 20 percent of dine-in and take-out purchases to Edgewood. Coyote Kids

New Semester of Coyote Kids! Enrichment Program Begins Soon

Your child will explore skills in bushcraft, naturalist skills, nature hikes and cooperative awareness games—children work together in small groups gaining knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds, and survival, as well as increasing their overall nature awareness. All of this right at your school and nearby green spaces!

Fall 2017 Coyote Kids! begins the first week of October.
Grade: 1st-5th grades.
When: Once a week every Thursday at your school.
Time: As soon as school lets out for the following two hours!

Announcements Aug 30th

Message from the Principal
Greetings Edgewood Families,
I have a couple of important announcements that I would like to share with you………
  • I am happy to announce that we have hired Courtney Morris as a half time facilitating teacher. Courtney comes to us from Wisconsin where he had over a decade of experience as a 4th grade classroom teacher, 5th grade classroom teacher, and a 2nd-5th grade TAG facilitator. Courtney will teach 4th grade math, 2nd grade literacy, and provide TAG support to our teachers and students. Please help me welcome Courtney to Edgewood. Also, please note that Courtney’s addition to our staff will not change your student’s classroom placement. Courtney’s presence will allow us to have smaller math groups in 4th grade and smaller reading groups in 2nd grade.

Welcome Information from Principal Moore

I hope you are enjoying your summer!  We look forward to seeing all of you in September!  School starts on Wednesday, September 6th and we will host an open house the day before on Tuesday, September 5th from 2:00-3:00.  This gives students a chance to meet their teachers and see their classrooms.  The office will be open to accept financial contributions and medications that day as well.
 

Site Council 2017-2018

In the fall there will be an election for a second parent site council member. Please keep this in mind if you are interested in running. The site council has made progress on the School Improvement Plan at the last meeting. The staff and administration are very dedicated to collaborating on school strategies for the top three goal areas of teaching and learning, educator effectiveness, and school culture.

Donate to the Edgewood Garden!

Edgewood Community Elementary School garden is looking for a few tools for summer maintenance. We need:

  • a gas powered weed eater
  • a gas powered lawn mower

If anyone is thinking of upgrading this summer, please consider us. These would need to be in good working order as we are staffed with volunteers. Thank you!
